About the club
History
The club was founded in 1961 and has kept the register continuously ever since.

A registry is only worth what its continuity is worth. A card issued in 1974 has to mean the same thing as one issued last week, or the whole structure collapses.
The Jamaica Kennel Club was established in 1961 to bring the island’s purebred dogs under a single, internationally recognised register, and to run shows at which those dogs could be judged against written standards rather than opinion. The club has operated from Kingston throughout, and now recognises fifty-six breeds across seven groups.
This page needs the club’s own records
The history above is the outline. What belongs here is the substance only the club holds: the founding members, the first shows and where they were held, when each breed was added to the recognised list, the champions that mattered, and the people who kept the register through decades when nobody was paying them to. Photographs from the archive, scanned properly, would carry this page on their own.
This is the single page on the site that cannot be researched or written from outside. It is also the one that best answers the question every rival registry raises — why should this club be the one that decides? Sixty-five years of unbroken records is the answer, and it should be shown rather than asserted.
One discrepancy to settle first: the club badge reads FOUNDED 1960, while every page of copy says 1961. Whichever is right, the other should change.
